WHO WE ARE

At Drake Marine Environmental Services, we believe sustainable maritime operations are not just a regulatory requirement, but an essential part of protecting our oceans for future generations.

We partner with national and state governments, shipowners and operators, intergovernmental organizations, and classification societies to address marine environmental challenges. Whether developing national strategies, reviewing complex data, or building capacity through workshops, we take pride in being a trusted partner who works collaboratively and dependably with you.

OUR APPROACH

Lasting change in the maritime industry happens when research, policy, and practice come together. We help you by working across three pillars:

Science-Based Solutions

Grounding recommendations in rigorous research and technical expertise to ensure strategies are both practical and effective.

Policy Leadership

Helping governments and shipowners interpret, implement, and comply with international regulations, while shaping policies that drive long-term sustainability.

Collaborative Partnerships

Building trusted relationships across academia, industry, and government to foster shared responsibility and collective progress.

By connecting these elements, we help shipowners and governments achieve regulatory compliance, protect ocean ecosystems, and strengthen resilience across the global maritime sector.

MEET THE FOUNDER

Lisa Drake, PhD

Dr. Lisa Drake brings scientific integrity and clarity to pressing, complex environmental challenges facing the maritime industry. Trained as an oceanographer and with decades of research and hands-on experience (from ship decks to policy desks!), she has dedicated her career to advancing science-based solutions.

In a professional journey spanning academia, government, and the private sector, Dr. Drake has the rare ability to navigate all of the steps necessary to solve environmental issues. In academia, she contributed to cutting-edge research that bounded the environmental problem of invasive species carried by ships’ ballast water and biofouling. In government, she led research teams that shaped national and international policy to build transparency and remove barriers to implementation. In the private sector, she led efforts to scale solutions, encourage industry adoption, ensure compliance, and address emerging contaminants.

Collaboration is central to her work; she has built trusted partnerships across agencies, disciplines, and industries, fostering the collective action needed to build a cleaner, more resilient maritime future.
